Reopening 2020
The time has finally come that we have been given the green light to reopen in just 2 weeks time. We can’t tell you how happy it makes us to know we can finally, after 4 long months; bring our favorite strength & conditioning facility back to you!
As can be expected there will be some adjustments to the gym (not shown in above picture). These will be to ensure we adhere to the guidelines set out by the government. This is to make sure our members and visitors stay safe and to reduce the risk of spread of Covid-19 in our local community.
We ask that all that attend the gym respect these guidelines and adhere to them at all times. After all, if we don’t all do as we are supposed to not only will we be risking a second closure of the gym but also risking people’s lives.
We have had a few initial enquiries so we want to answer them now and then in the week leading to reopening we will give you more practical information on how you can attend Macclesfield Performance when our doors are open.
When will we be reopening?
We have chosen to reopen on Monday 27th July.
Although we are allowed to open from Saturday 25th legally; practically, in order for us to ensure the gym is 100% ready we have decided to open a couple of days later to give us the time we need to prepare what is expected of us.
Will there be a booking system?
Yes, in order to attend the gym you will need to book yourself a time slot.
We will be allowing 90 minutes per visit and you will be able to book specific areas of the gym that will provide you with specific equipment known as “zones”.
Each zone will include a variety of equipment which will be listed on our booking section of our website also. You can expect to be able to book your zones and days in a weeks time.
Do I need to be a member to attend?
You do not need to be a member to attend. However “drop in’s” are also not allowed at this time, therefore you will still need to book your zone, payment for your time slot will be taken when you book and is non-refundable.
How will I book if I am a member?
Members will be provided with a unique code to use at checkout when booking their time slot which will automatically remove any charges.
Will the shower facilities be available?
Unfortunately, in line with the guidance set out for gyms reopening we have been advised to keep our shower facilities off limits for the time being. You will be asked to arrive at the facility in sports kit and where possible to travel home to change/shower. Our toilets will of course be accessible.
Will I be required to complete any paperwork or sign any contracts?
Our memberships are all contract free with no tie-ins or cancelation fees, however; all attendees, members and non-members will be required to complete a medical questionnaire (PAR-Q) prior to attendance on reopening. This will be emailed to you after you have booked your timeslot and can be completed online to avoid unnecessary handling of documents. You will only need to complete and return this document once.
Can I see a personal trainer whilst at Macclesfield Performance?
Yes, our strength & conditioning coaches and PTs will be back working from the gym from the 27th July also.
For the time being (during open gym hours) there will only be one PT working with clients at a time on the gym floor to ensure we avoid overcrowding and save room for you, our members, to use the facility. Your coach will be in touch to advise of when they are working and when you can attend with them. Don’t worry they haven’t missed out - we will be closing the gym between the hours of 12pm & 4pm daily to ensure our PT’s can also work together with their clients and to ensure a mid-day deep clean of the facility prior to re-opening in the evening.
This means our Open Gym hours will initially be 07.00-12.00 & 16.00-21.00. When restrictions are eased we will begin to add more time to the timetable.
If you are looking to enlist the help of a strength & conditioning coach or personal trainer, get in touch and we can help you find the right one for you and your goals.
Do I have to book a zone if I am seeing a coach or personal trainer?
No, your coach or PT knows that is it their responsibility to book a zone for you both to work from and will do so according to availability and what your individualised session requires at their discretion.
Can I come with a family member?
Yes, some training zones will be suitable for 2 people from the same family/bubble. This will be detailed on the zone description.
We hope this has given you a little insight as to what we are working on during this time and look forward to sharing more information with you soon.
In the meantime, check out our booking page to get signed up to our Open Gym Membership to secure your gym access now!
Coved-19 Gym Update
We are in the third month of lockdown and it is fair to say we are all missing our beloved Macclesfield Performance, it’s members, coaches & friends.
Whilst the gym has been closed we have been working not only on ensuring we continue to offer personal training and classes via online platforms such as “Zoom” but we have also used it to prepare for reopening.
There is no doubt that when we do reopen there will be some guidelines that we will need to adhere to. You can rest assured that as always Macclesfield Performance have been following all legislation closely and will ensure that when we reopen you will be able to visit a safe and sanitary, professional environment as always.
We are excited to have you all back with us as soon as that can be.
We have also used this period of lockdown to make some updates to the gym to create even better packages and services for our clients and have also bought in some new equipment.
There is plenty to look forward to so continue to stay safe, stay strong and do your part to ensure we can see you all very soon.
From all the team at Macclesfield Performance x
MP Must See - Week 5!
This week on “MP Must See” we have “Icarus”.
The film follows follows Dr Grigory Rodchenkov, an eccentric scientist at the centre of a chaotic story of Russian state-sponsored doping leading up to London 2012 and Sochi 2014. We wouldn’t put it in the “Inspiration for lockdown” category, but it's a jaw dropping tale, with an entertaining protagonist, that makes you question what elite sport really is and what it can ever be.
This fascinating must see is on Netflix.
We’ll have some free recommendations again next week!
Enjoy!

MP Must See - Week 4!
This week on MP Must See, we have “Diego Maradona”, the third film from the Academy Award and BAFTA-winning team behind 'Senna' and ‘Amy’.
You don’t need to be a football fan to enjoy this - it’s a classic human story of rags and riches, saints and sinners, crime, failure and victory.
On the pitch, Diego Maradona was a genius. Off the pitch, he was treated like a God (except in England!). The charismatic Argentine loved a fight against the odds and led Napoli to their first-ever title. It was the stuff of dreams. But there was a price... Diego could do as he pleased while performing miracles on the pitch but, as time passed, darker days closed in. In a city where the devil would have needed bodyguards, Maradona became bigger than God himself. This is the wild and unforgettable story of outrageous talent, glory, despair and betrayal, corruption and ultimately redemption

MP Must See - Week 2!
This week’s MP Must See Recommendation is a complete change from last week’s quaint rural Lake District fell running vibe.
As we dive straight into the uncompromising world of American powerlifting, with Westside versus the World!
This documentary takes a look at the journey of influential and controversial strength coach Louie Simmons and the Westside Barbell gym he founded. It’s a place where world records abound, but where the uncompromising attitudes could make you raise your eyebrows!
This documentary has been described in some reviews as the “Ultimate Powerlifting Documentary”.
No matter your opinion on how the views, methods and attitudes relate to powerlifting communities, attitudes and gyms. This documentary is a great weekend lockdown filler for those interested in all things strength & power.
It’s available on Netflix if you’re a subscriber.
And for £1.99 SD / £4.49 HD on YouTube if you’re not a Netflix subscriber.
Enjoy!

Online Timetable Update
It's been over a week now since we were forced to close our doors as a result of Covid-19 and we have to say “what a week it has been!”
Firstly we want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all our members, 121 clients and regulars.
Not only have you been patient with us while we pull together an online platform to help you through these uncertain times, you have stuck by us and shown us so much support & love by way of text, emails, calls & continued membership payments.
We are literally overwhelmed with the kindness we have been shown & your support is ensuring we can keep the ball rolling so the gym survives this difficult time - Thank you!
So, as week 2 of MP lockdown is upon us, we wanted to give you a bit of a round up of last week & tell you what we have in store for the coming week.
Our morning “Live Home Workouts” & “Yoga” sessions last week went down so well.
Mandy & Emma did a wonderful job of giving you all a 45 minute morning session at such short notice & their delivery & coaching was excellent as we knew it would be.
We are delighted to let you know these are to continue into next week.
Monday-Friday 09.30-10.15 so what are you waiting for?
This week we also see the addition of some new sessions.
Starting on Monday 30th March at 15.00; Ruth will be leading two Pilates sessions per week. Suitable for all abilities with no equipment needed. The second session of the week will be on Wednesday evenings at 18.00 as per our online timetable.
Emma will be kicking off two “Core Conditioning” sessions also.
The first being Tuesdays at 19.00 and the second; Fridays at 18.00 all once again bookable right here and right now.
MP’s newest coach Joe will be adding his sessions to our online timetable starting Saturday 4th April & Tuesday 7th April. So keep your eyes on our social media feeds & webiste for more information on this later in the week.
Don’t forget, if you are a runner, our Run Macclesfield coaches & LiRFs have you covered also with weekly catch ups & session briefings for you to continue your run programming on your own.
And at Macclesfield Performance we even have your Nutrition covered if you need help with weekly Nutrition accountability sessions with Mandy on Wednesdays at 12.00.
Finally, this week, for those of you who have been working with a Sports Rehabilitator prior to lockdown, or for anyone that has been having difficulty with injury or rehabilitation. Perhaps even, you have upped your training this week & now you are feeling a new niggle?
We have a drop session in with MP Sports Rehabilitator Tom Burden every Thursday at 12.00 starting this Thursday 2nd April.
As you can see we are working together to bring a valuable selection of services to you, to help keep you healthy, strong and part of the Macclesfield Performance community at this time.
We are so happy to hear you are all pleased with what we have been doing so far.
If you have any additional timetable, gym, classes or coaching related questions. MP owner Dom will be holding a weekly chat at 12.00 every Monday for those that wish to swing by and say “Hi”.
Booking for all sessions is essential - Invitations will only go to those that book.
Members, you are able to access all sessions via the code you have been sent.
Non-members please feel free to join us as Pay As You Go, or access our “Lockdown 2020” membership for £25 per month with no tie-ins or contracts as always.
We wish you all a great week and look forward to seeing you all online.
Stay safe, Stay Home.
From all at Macclesfield Performance. x
MP Must See - Week 1!
It’s not all about training at MP!
Rest and relaxation are just as important. And since we’re all housebound for the time-being we thought we’d start a weekly “MP Must See” service!
Each week one of our coaches will recommend a television watch that is in some way related to sport, training, exercise or fitness. It might be a documentary, fiction or perhaps a feature film based on a true story. We will include some classics, but will also showcase things that are a little less well known. Some weeks recommendations will be on free platforms like YouTube, other weeks on paid streaming sites like Netflix or Prime.
We hope that this will alleviate some of the lockdown boredom and maybe even give you some inspiration for goals to train for once we’re all allowed back in the gym again!
This week’s first recommendation is freely available on YouTube and is Paul Tierney: Running The Wainwrights.
Following ultra runner Paul Tierney on an epic adventure to summit all 214 Alfred Wainwright Lake District peaks in one go. His goal - to try and beat the record time of 6 days 13 hours and 1 minute, set five years earlier by fellow fell runner Steve Birkinshaw.
Needing to cover a distance of approximately 318 miles and ascend the equivalent height of four times Mt Everest, Paul knew this was his biggest challenge to date and enlisted the help of friends and family.
Battling sleep deprivation and everything the Lake District weather could throw at him, what transpired was a story that gripped not only the fell-running and ultra-running communities but also the wider sporting world.
Enjoy!

MP Coronavirus Statement
As a busy community of people who interact face-to-face, with shared equipment, Macclesfield Performance is taking the health of all of our members, and the wider community, very seriously during the coronavirus outbreak.
It is therefore extremely important that as a community we all work together in taking simple precautions, as part of the country’s public health approach to this outbreak.
Accordingly, we kindly ask all MP members to follow our simple guidelines below, which are all in line with current government advice.
1. If you have any of the following symptoms please do not come to Macclesfield Performance and please follow NHS guidelines on self-isolation.
• A high temperature.
• A new, continuous cough.
2. Washing your hands is a very effective control measure. Please wash your hands for at least 20 seconds before and after your workout.
3. We have placed hand sanitizing solutions and wipes in several places around the gym which we would like you to use frequently during your workouts.
4. We have placed sanitising spray and paper towels in several places around the gym. Please give the equipment you have used a quick wipe down with the spray once you have finished using it.
5. Please be especially vigilant not to leave water bottles, towels, or used tissues lying around in the gym.
6. Please follow the general NHS advice around personal hygiene in the graphic below. If you have any questions while at the gym please just ask any of the coaches on the gym floor – we’re here to help.
